The Power of Agreement

Did you know that the place of agreement is the place of power? This is especially true in our marriages. Envy and strife result in confusion and the lack of power but agreement will actually multiply the power in your marriage and help protect it.
Amos 3:3 ask the question, "How can two walk together except they be agreed?" Matthew 18:19 states. "If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them..." Matthew 12:25 states, "A house divided against itself shall not stand". Deuteronomy 32:30 declares, " One can chase a thousand, and two can put ten thousand to flight."

The Bible is replete with the fact that agreement is very important if we want to maximize our power and success and minimize strife, discord, and failure. The Greek word used in the Bible for agree is sumphoneo. I love the Greek language because it will often draw a picture for us of what the word actually means. We often think of agreement as a legal term in the English language. However, the Greek word sumphoneo is not a legal term but rather a musical term. This is where we derive our English word symphony. The definition of sumphoneo is harmonious, one accord, in concert, union of sound, same song. Are you getting the picture?
Is your marriage a symphony or does it sound like a junior high band???
An old preacher told me once that there are no instant men and women of God. Salvation is instant but knowing the Word, applying the Word to your life, and being a mature Christian takes time and effort. A person that plays in a symphony practices for years before they can play in a symphony. There are no instant symphonic marriages. It takes communications, honor, respect, time, research, study, on the job training, consideration of options together, honesty, openness, no secrets, work, etc., etc., but in the end, it is all worth it...
